What are Daylight Saving Times and why do they exist? | MiEx
Daylight saving times (DST) are a unique phenomenon that is observed in most of Europe, most of North America, Australia, and parts of Asia. If you are at all confused about what it is and why it exists, worry not as we will take you through exactly what it’s all about! The idea of having Daylight Saving Times (DST) is to make better use of daylight. Many regions around the world change their clocks during the summer months to move an hour of daylight from the morning to the evening.
This is because summers in the Northern hemisphere experience sunlight earlier in the day. By moving the clocks forward an hour, the sun will seem to both rise and set later. Each region sets their own DST based on the conditions experienced, and hence each year’s DST varies.
