【Canadian Health Check】 | MiExpert | All-in-one Online Immig
If you plan to stay in Canada for 6 or more months, and have lived in Hong Kong for at least 6 months in the past year, the Canadian authorities will send a letter to the visa applicant stating that the applicant must go to a designated clinic in Hong Kong for a medical examination within 30 days after receiving the letter. If you fail to attend the medical examination in time, your visa application may be rejected. The medical examination consists of four major items, which includes a basic physical examination, a lung X-ray, and a blood and urine test.
There are certain people who are exempted from particular items in the medical examination, as listed below:
- Urine test is only required for those aged 5 and above
- Chest X-rays only required for those 11 or older
- Blood test only required for those 15 or older
- Pregnant women can choose not to accept X-ray examination for the time being and apply to the Immigration Bureau for an extension
1. Examination will be done after giving birth
2. Will affect the progress of the application
- Genital and rectal exams not required unless doctor deems it necessary
After completing the medical examination, the doctor or medical institution will send the medical examination report (including relevant X-rays and other results) to the Canadian Immigration Service. While waiting for verification by the Ministry of Medicine, the applicant should patiently wait for an interview notification. Counting from the day of the medical examination, the medical examination report is valid for one year. If the applicant fails to obtain a visa within one year, a new medical examination is required. The medical examination fee is approximately HK$1,000 to HK$2,200 (depending on the age group and the required medical examination items).
