【A Complete List of Everything You Should Pack When Immigrat
Smaller electronic appliances such as rice cookers and electric kettles are must-haves when packing for the UK. In particular, German brands and Japanese brands of electrical appliances are rather scarce in the UK, and suffer from inflated prices. It is also recommended to carry your smaller household appliances in your suitcase instead of shipping them off, as this would allow you to use them immediately after alighting.
All Apple products, mobile phones, computers, speakers, and cameras are also better off purchased in Hong Kong. On average, electronics in the UK are 15-25% more expensive than in Hong Kong, so it is definitely worth investing time and money in being well prepared prior to immigrating. You should also pay attention to certain electrical appliances that require accessories, such as printers, as the ink cartridge models may not necessarily be available in the UK.
If you are a user of Chinese medicine, stock up prior to leaving for the UK. Chinese patent medicine, medicated oils, ointments, and analgesic patches aren’t as readily available in the UK. On the other hand, it is not recommended to bring Western medicine, as they are similar in composition and price in both countries.
You should also avoid bringing supplements, specifically vitamins, to the UK. Vitamins are known to be almost a tenth of the price of those found in Hong Kong, so this is an easy way to save some extra cash.
In terms of furniture, you should avoid shipping any large furniture over, such as mattresses, couches, shelves, etc. The UK offers many different brands of furniture, at affordable prices as well.
Smaller appliances, however, are a different story altogether. Chopsticks, spoons, soup fish bags, steaming racks, plate holders, paper towel tubes are all of higher quality in Hong Kong. UK paper towels especially, are much more expensive and have a worse build quality than Hong Kong paper towels.
Glasses and contact lenses are much more expensive in the UK, so do be aware and purchase whatever you need back in Hong Kong. In terms of clothing, it isn’t necessary to bring too much summer clothing, as the UK is only really hot for 1-2 months a year. For girls of relatively short stature, it is recommended to bring more jeans and pants, as the British clothing sizes are larger than that of Hong Kong, hence smaller sizes might not fit as well as you might like. It is also recommended to bring a hat and waterproof jacket, as the UK is known for its rainy season.
