Iconic Restaurants
Best outdoor delights
Although “Riverbar & Kitchen” serves breakfast, lunch and dinner every day, it’s breakfast is probably most iconic, because before or after dinner, you can stroll along the picturesque city center near the Riverside riverside ferry terminal in the city. Choose from the Paleo-friendly healthy breakfast plate - halloumi with avocado, kale and nuts - or go all out and enjoy bacon, eggs and sausage on toasted sourdough bread. The espresso comes from Sydney-based roaster Single Origin Roasters, but the large bottle of cocktails (served from 10am) at brunch is a Brisbane must-have.
The “Southbank Beer Garden at Southbank” brings the pub atmosphere to the sun, making it the only open-air beer restaurant next to the beach in the city. This location not only overlooks the man-made beach Street (Streets Beach) on the South Bank, but also enjoys 180-degree river and city views from the restaurant's balcony. Must-eats here are beer and steak—beer includes local craft beers, and steak can include local steak or 9+-grade Japanese Wagyu. Most of the meat dishes are cooked on the special grill in the brasserie, and home-made smoked meat is another famous product in the store. For dessert, try Australia's most popular crispy apple pear pie.
Best coffee shops
“Fonzie Abbott” is a coffee wholesaler who purchases coffee beans directly from farmers and roasts them on-site in the northeast suburb of Abion District. Pull up a coffee chair in the factory, and you can taste a variety of Highside, Drifter and Boxer signature blend coffees in turn, or you can try their single-origin coffee and pair it with an all-day breakfast. At the same location, you'll also find Fonzie Abbott Brewery and Wishbone Spirits Distillery, which in the evening offers heartier options like burgers and wood-fired crepes.
Not far from the famous cricket ground Gabba Stadium, in the Woollongabba Industrial Zone, the “Black Sheep” serves coffee roasted and served on the spot, so that you can almost taste the passion in the coffee directly. In addition to selling coffee beans to the best coffee shops in Brisbane, Black Sheep is also a coffee shop itself. Sustainable and ethically produced eco-friendly coffee beans from Guatemala, Ethiopia, Rwanda, Ecuador and more. You can go to the store to buy some coffee beans or Black Sheep products as souvenirs.
Enjoyable civilian foods
Can you taste celebrity chef food on a reasonable budget? That’s a yes in Brisbane. Inside the beautifully renovated Treasury Casino, you'll find a number of excellent eateries, including “Fat Noodle”, where you can taste the famous Vietnamese Pho that Vietnamese-Australian chef Luke Nguyen spent 20 hours making. After ordering, settle into the casino's stately dining room to enjoy your meal and admire the ornate decorations, including a hanging chopstick garden made up of more than 3,000 pairs of chopsticks.
It's definitely possible to eat fresh, authentic Japanese food at a reasonable price, as evidenced by the many local fans who love coming to this cozy and lively Japanese eatery, “Sushi Kotobuki”. In addition to small plates of sushi and sashimi, there are also a variety of rice bowls and noodles for you to choose from. Cultural fusion sushi is especially popular, such as the "spider roll" made with soft-shell crab, crab meat and cucumber.
