Make a trip to the Manchester Art Gallery

One of the largest collections of Pre-Raphaelite paintings in the UK is housed at this gallery, which also boasts a considerable collection of Victorian artwork. The museum's main structure dates back 200 years. You may view more than 2,000 oil paintings, 3,000 sketches and watercolours, sculptures, and other ornamental items inside the museum. A sizable collection of costumes from from 1600 to the present is also featured. Free entry is offered.

See the Godlee Observatory

One of the most intriguing things in Manchester is this observatory, which was built in 1902. The reflected telescope housed here is the original model and is still in excellent condition despite the city being bombed during World War II. Francis Godlee donated the observatory to the University of Manchester, and the roof is really papier-mâché. It is perched on the summit of a tower in the gothic style, high above Manchester University. Scientists in the small observation dome during the historic lunar landing were able to see a potentially deadly crater and alert the astronauts about it. Weekly lectures on astronomy are presented by the Manchester Astronomical Society.

Chill out in Albert Square

One of the nicest places in Manchester to people-watch is Albert Square. Impressive architecture surrounds it, notably the Manchester Town Hall in Victorian Gothic style, which boasts a renowned 87-metre (285-foot) clock tower. Historic structures abound in the area itself, including the Albert Memorial, a marble statue of the Prince Consort built in the 1860s following his typhoid death. The square hosts a lot of significant festivals and events during the summer. Here, in the winter, is where you'll discover the renowned Manchester Christmas Market.

Attend a football match

You can't visit Manchester and not watch a football game because it is home to two of the top Premier League teams in England (Manchester United and Man City). Catching a game is an exciting experience because the two teams are competitors and both have passionate fans. Old Trafford is a renowned venue for sporting events and the home stadium for Manchester United, but on days when there are no games, you may go behind-the-scenes tours. Pre-order your tickets because they frequently sell out. Although ticket costs vary, plan to spend at least 38 GBP.

Budget

Accommodation

Here, hostels are pricey. A bed in a dorm with six to eight beds costs about fifty pounds per night. About 100 GBP per night will get you a modest twin private room for two people with a common bathroom. The majority of hostels include either free breakfast or self-catering options, and free Wi-Fi is a regular amenity. There are several campgrounds outside the city, but getting there could require a vehicle. If you have a tent, a basic site without power costs between 10 and 20 GBP per night. Budget two-star lodging costs between 60 and 85 GBP per night. Simple conveniences like free Wi-Fi, TV, and coffee/tea machines are to be expected. Private rooms on Airbnb in Manchester range in price from 35 to 50 GBP per night.

Food

British cuisine has advanced significantly as a result of immigration (and colonization), but it is still mostly a meat-and-potatoes nation. Fish and chips continue to be a popular choice for lunch and supper, along with roasted and stewed meats, sausages, meat pies, and the traditional Yorkshire pudding. Curry is also quite popular, as are other Indian cuisines like tikka masala.

Stick to the cafes and pubs if you want to dine out as inexpensively as possible because you can have a lunch of fish and chips there for about 8 GBP. A combination meal from a fast food restaurant like McDonald's costs about 6 GBP.

There are several food vendors in and around Piccadilly Gardens, and if you stroll through the Northern Quarter to the north, you may discover a wide variety of inexpensive restaurants. For handcrafted grilled cheese sandwiches for about 7 GBP, check out Northern Soul Grilled Cheese. Another excellent location to get affordable meals is Chinatown. You should budget between 10 and 12 GBP for a main course. Around 15 GBP will get you dinner at a casual restaurant that serves traditional or Indian food. Expect to pay at least 30 GBP for a three-course lunch and beverage if you want to treat yourself.
